Video guide for hotels - Trivop
With the bandwidth being available to more regions in the world and with the popularity of the video content
on the Internet it seems to be logical to add video to enhance a service which is being already provided on the Internet. There are loads of web sites and services that help travelers plan their holidays but a new service Trivop has added videos to their listing of hotels and places of tourist interest. It is a good idea and as is the case with so many web 2.0 services it crossed my mind why did not I or someone else think of it before?
Since it is a European service (French) right now you can search in England and France for hotels based on price, region, class, charges and most viewed hotels. The videos have been made by the hoteliers. Each video begins with some street footage near the hotel. The video camera then takes the viewer up to the entrance and into the lobby and other public spaces, and on to a room. Videos are available for each of type of room a hotel offers (standard, deluxe, junior suite, etc), including shots of the bathroom and the view through the window. No running commentary, just some fairly innocuous background music. Additional information includes the five most recent reviews on TripAdvisor, a full street address and a link to the hotel’s website.
The videos have all been indexed so that you can choose which part of the video tour you’d like to skip to.
Trivop also extends the opportunity for independent filmmakers and production companies to submit their services for video tours as well. In this sense, Trivop is seemingly acting as a broker between filmmakers and the hotel industry. Trivop will soon be extending their submissions option to users as well, making Trivop into a true community.
Another feature that has been added to Trivop is Google Maps and TripAdvisor. In the future they plan to incorporate other third party websites such as TripTie and TripHub. Another aspect which is missing and can be of great help to the users of the service is information regarding attractions in the area which I hope they will incorporate soon.
Trivop is a clever idea as it takes away the uncertainty that is associated with the booking of a new hotel as you usually do not get a fair idea from still images and other information that is provided on a typical web site. I’m also sure that there would be other services sprouting soon therefore Trivop has to ramp up as fast as they can to take a lead from other services that might come up.
