Powerpoint viewer by Google

Posted in web 2.0 by Pali

In their quest to be an a complete online office application provider Google has taken the next big step and PowerPoint slides can be viewed on Googlehave added an online tool that allows you to view PowerPoint files on the Internet. Whenever someone sends you a PowerPoint presentation, you can instantly view it in a separate browser window. Google currently supports web previews and editing of Word and Excel files through Google Docs and Spreadsheets. Powerpoint files can be only accessed and not edited right now.

Microsoft would be worried as Google is slowly eating into Microsoft’s share of the market because the easier it is for users to work with Office files, the less they need to rely on Microsoft. There are currently no visible ads while previewing PowerPoint files (then again, Word and Excel files don’t have them either), but this is probably subject to change.

When you receive a Powerpoint file you can see the presentation as a slideshow and navigate the slides by using the arrows at the bottom of the screen or you can choose to see a particular slide.

However, development on the ability to edit Powerpoint files is being worked on and developed and should be available in days to come. Though it would be great when Google makes it possible to use the Internet as a operating system but the fear is that it might grow into another Microsoft because the incidents of Microsoft like behavior of Google are increasing.
