How to beat email spammers with Contactify - an email without an email address!

With the increased usage of Internet as a medium of communication lots of people have email addresses. As is Contactify - An email without an address!the case with most things that are good, email communication came with its own set of disadvantages. One of the biggest challenges with emails, which the world is trying to curb but has been unsuccessful, is spam in your email. Initially it amazed me how the spammers could get hold of my email address even if I create an new (the maximum time it took them in the last two years was 6 months and that was because I was careful about posting information of my email address). I’m sure a lot of you already know how the email addresses are gathered but for uninitiated email addresses are gathered by spammers from the web pages. While a lot of you do not have personal web pages but unknowingly you would have provided your email addresses somewhere on the Internet which was later added to a database (while shopping online, replying to an email, post in the forums or participation in polls). Spammers have softwares which once started start searching for email addresses on pages on the Internet. Anything having a format of an email address (eg. *****@***.***) is captured and added to the email database which is used to send spam.

This problem propagated further and the target were bloggers. Since email addresses are provided on blogs, blog writers became easy target. If you do have a blog you would realize how much spam is sent in not only emails but if the comment section is not moderated there would be a lot of comments which would be spam.

The whole story above is the ground on which a new service called Contactify was launched recently. Contactify allows you to maintain an online presence, on blogs, forums, social networks etc., whilst always guarding your privacy while it protects your identity from spam bots from harvesting your email address. Having said that its usage is not restricted to bloggers only but the common Internet user would benefit by it because they are also target of spam if the interact socially on the web. Contactify supplies a link (like this one) that connects users to a familiar web form where they can compose and send a message (which gets routed to your inbox, by Contactify). Users who want to send an email do have to enter a five-digit code, which is a hassle no one likes, but it’s yet another level of protection from ‘bots. This is a great solution for blogs and other sites that don’t offer their own contact forms. It’s fast and easy to set up, and it

How to use Contactify
Go to the contactify web site at http://www.contactify.com/. At the bottom left of the home page there is a section called “Super Fast Sign-Up Box”. You need to provide your email address and the preferred password twice before hitting the submit button. After signing up, you receive your own contactify link in the inbox of the email address you provided. Post that link anywhere you like, online or offline. When someone clicks on that link they are taken to a contact form. They can then send you a message, but your email address is never revealed.
