Biggest web trends of 2007!

It is an interesting to see what everyone predicts to be the biggest web News and information on what is happening on the webtrends in 2007. A good list of predictions can be found at Read/Write web. A follow up to the article has the result for the poll which gives you an idea of what people expect.

It is surprising though that a lot of the users who are not “tech savvy” according to web developers are not really aware of all the applications and goodies that are available as part of web 2.0. There seems to be a disconnect between the users and the developers which is sort of reality check for web 2.0 enterpenuers. But as they say it is tough to keep a good thing down, I do think in 2007 we would see more and more people adopting the web 2.0 technology to make their life efficient. There are some great products on the web which surprisingly very few people are aware of. Why websites like last.fm, delicious, 30boxes.com and zimbra do not have more users is inexplainable as there seems to be value in the services but somehow the message is not getting through to the people. The developers and enterpenuers of web 2.0 should create enough interest of the general public so that they use the new services otherwise once again the Internet bust would be unavoidable. Once the general public starts using the Internet in innovative ways then we would be able to say that web 2.0 has come of age.

Another interesting observation has been made by Andrew on his website where he makes a case for one identity. For a normal user the fact that there are so many services it becomes tough for one to keep track of their accounts create your virtual clone right nowon the website and this is where virtual identities like OpenID would come into the picture. Virtual identities would be used to access all the services on the web and it does make testing of different services easier. The web 2.0 community has to take an initiative and move in the directions.

Having said that I’m sure there are going to be more interesting products and services and the article on Read/Write web does capture all the services, technologies and products that are likely to be popular in 2007.
